- Serving hot meals to the hungry
- Groceries to families in need

SHOE AWAY HUNGER
Hunger and poverty is a growing concern everywhere. Recent reports have indicated that as many as 1 out of 7 children go to bed hungry at least 1 time each week. With this in mind, we have committed ourselves to doing our part in helping to eliminate local hunger. Of course, purchasing groceries can be expensive; therefore we created a ministry called SHOE AWAY HUNGER that offers quality shoes at an affordable price with all the net proceeds being used to purchase groceries to support our hunger relief programs and services.
We cannot do this alone. We need the help and assistance of dedicated volunteers to help collect shoes, sort shoes, provide oversight for sales and to offer administrative and social media or marketing support.
FIRST STOP DROP-IN CENTER
Perhaps you or someone you know is looking for a stress-free place to hang out or read, or to engage in some meaningful conversation while sipping a warm cup of coffee. If so, we present to you the FIRST STOP drop-in center. This unique community space and outreach of Good in the ‘Hood is located at the Lutheran Colportage Services storefront 2101 Chicago Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55404. It offers a safe place for residents, travelers, the homeless and/or everyday wayfarers in need of a respite to receive much needed support, encouragement, conversation, spiritual direction, connection and a delicious cup of espresso coffee. Anyone looking for a place to go, that provides personal ministry and a sense of belonging, will enjoy this unique pedestrian-style wayside rest stop. During the summer months we host several free community BBQ lunches or dinners. It’s a great way to show God’s love practically and to bring the community together for fun, food and festivities.
Are you looking for a place to visit or for an opportunity to give back in a manner that offers support for friends in need? Our FIRST STOP drop-in center may be just the place for you. We invite you to stop by for a cup of JO and to say “Hello”. Or, you are welcome to join our team as a regular volunteer ministry partner for this much needed urban oasis.
We’re open every Monday and Friday from 12-6:00 pm (Note: holidays off).
INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
Cedarcrest Church Community is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We are active in supporting missionaries with our money and with our prayers. The missionaries supported by Cedarcrest Church are located in three countries—Bulgaria, Kenya, and the Thailand. We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community.
Music Ministry
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. We invite church members get involved in our music ministry on Sunday morning and during our hot meal outreach to the community. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved as sound technicians. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.
Hunger Relief
In step with our mission to “FEED BODIES and FEED SOULS”, twice each month Cedarcrest Church hosts the Food in the Hood hot meals and grocery distribution, a program of Good in the ‘Hood. This compassionate outreach provides hot meals at least seven days of groceries for over 500 families in need each month. Volunteerism is at the heart of this outreach. We invite members and nonmembers alike to join us for this exciting ministry to our community. We’re very pleased that nearly 50% of our volunteers are recipients of our services who are choosing to give back in order. Our Church motto is to “Activate and then Integrate” as a means of helping community members to become a part of our Christian community of faith.
We invite you to serve as a volunteer for our Food in the Hood program today. Please NOTE: our program location is at our partner church Cedar Valley Church 8600 Bloomington Ave. S Bloomington, MN 55420. To apply as a volunteer, please go online to our Good in the ‘Hood partner website. Our program is every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. We have two shifts for volunteers to join us:
Shift 1: 12-4:00 pm
Shift 2: 4:30-9:30 pm
Our Food in the Hood hot meals and grocery distribution is open to anyone in need from 5-8:00 pm every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at Cedarcrest Church 1630 East 90th Street Bloomington, MN 55425. No reservation is needed. Just show up with your I.D. and each dependent I.D.
Prayer and Praise
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Our Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to seeing God’s kingdom expressed in the life of every person. Each Sunday, during the morning service, we invite those in need to write down their prayer requests so that our prayer team can ask on your behalf for God’s gracious intervention.
Praise reports are also a vital part of our community. We enjoy the opportunity to celebrate the answers to prayer that members of our community have experienced and to give thanks to God. Testimonials are welcome in writing or during special services that are devoted to highlighting the blessings given by the Lord to individuals or our collective community.
